Staff Development Opportunities
Back to Bulletin BoardAGH Associates, Inc. staff train on-site in public
schools and early intervention programs through-out the country. Because we know the level
of support and training needed to help systems move to "best practices", we
prefer to work with a system over a period of years.
We do keynotes, overview of topic
workshops, and credit courses for those systems not yet ready to commit to a long-term
relationship.
Our training menu of services for building
inclusive schools includes:
- Needs Assessment (classroom, building,
and/or district)
- Planning for Systemic Change (short term
goals (1 year) and long term goals (5+ year plan)
- Pre-Referral Process (set-up, train
participants, model, monitor, tie-in with other outside consultants)
- Assessment (quality control, ecological
assessment training, training in writing non-jargon reports, written feedback on reports,
training in and monitoring of functional recommendations, training in and monitoring of
non-jargon oral reports to team/parents)
- Teaming (training in: consensus building,
facilitation of team, writing IEPs at team meetings, efficient use of team time, agenda
building, written documentation, roles of members, supporting parents, cultural
competency, team collaboration)
- Provision of Services (block scheduling of
specialists' time, lesson/treatment planning, use of entire school/community environment,
role of regular education staff, role of paraprofessionals, consultation, integrated
therapies, functional outcomes, evaluation of progress, progress notes, team approach,
parent communication)
- Best Practices (developmentally appropriate
practices, cooperative learning, team-teaching, consultant model, integrated therapies,
ESL as a related service, differentiated instruction in mixed-ability classrooms, behavior
management)
- Parent Involvement (orientation to inclusive
practices, parent brochures/guides, defining and supporting a positive parent role on the
team, parent communication
- Administration Consultation at the building
and/or district level (planning, monitoring, interagency cooperation, role of the
administrator teacher support, parent support, systemic change, next steps, observation
and feedback)
- Publicity (conference presentations (local,
state, and/or national), newspaper/radio/cable stories, articles for
building/district parent newsletters, board of education and/or central office
reports/presentations)
