Reviews The author, Tom Savage tsavage800@AOL , July 29, 1997 Reasons for writing this book I spent a part of my teaching career teaching students with behavior problems. The topic of dicipline was one that was interesting to me. Over the years, I have taught many in-service and pre-service classes on the topic and my ideas continued to evolve. In this book I attempt to bring together the many diverse elements that I believe are important in preventing problems and in responding to them. The basic premise is that there is an important purpose in discipline. That purpose is helping youngsters develop self-control. Our discipline efforts need to be evaluated based on how well they help the student grow toward self-control. I have been pleased with the comments I have recieved from individuals who have read the book and state that it has been a great help to them.
